Temperatures showing the milder first half of the month (very mild during the wet conditions of the first week) followed by gradual decline in temperatures during the latter half. Even so the day time temperatures were not unreasonable, the lowest maximum for the entire month being 6ºC. However the clear conditions at night allowed for a good deal of radiative cooling and subsequent air frosts.

Historical Temperature Comparison ºC
February 2004

30 Year Average February 2004
Mean Daily Max. 7.5 9.2
Mean Daily Min. 2.5 3.4
Mean 5.0 6.3

February was generally milder than average. The table above shows both the mean daily maximum and minimum to be above the average as well as the overall mean temperature for the month. This is despite have more air frosts than the average, they just weren't as cold! The absolute maximum was somewhat behind the record and the coldest temperature was well off the record.
