Page 2 of 2 Gales on the 11th and 20th or March recorded wind speeds just 1 mph short of the record of 47mph. Overall, however, wind speeds were down on average with a mean speed of 7 mph compared to the average of 14.2mph. Heavy rain on the 11th contributed to a wetter than average month despite the last week being almost completely dry. The following table compares March rainfall totals with the 20 year average:
